Goddess of Chocolate
Goddess of Chocolate
There has to be a Goddess Of Chocolate. Right? That’s what I thought. After all I’ve been traveling in Chocolate country for a long time. The idea for this painting started with research. Not just the eating chocolate kind of research. I’m talking about the research of traveling in the countries that grow chocolate like Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala just for starters.
I had the privilege of seeing actual chocolate trees.
Trees filled with monkeys fighting over their sweet fruit.
With Golden pods of fruit that are filled with the seeds that become chocolate.
I’ve seen ancient chocolate pottery cups over two thousand years old that Mayan Kings and Queens used. A drink they considered inspired by the divine forces of the Gods and Goddesses. Where lords and ladies drank hot bitter chocolate cups filled with ground chills to spice their drinks. Presenting their chocolate cups as gifts meant to last a lifetime.
I’ve stood in a chocolate factory in Mexico where they roasted the cacao seeds or beans to perfection. Grinding them into a fine powered that was worth its weight in gold anywhere in the world?
I’ve been in Paris in a chocolate shop that smelled so divine one could almost swoon from the fragrance of
chocolate. Where its liquid was poured into molds of confections and then hand painted into works of art.
OOOH LA LA!
Yes there has to be a Goddess of chocolate with her swirled chocolate hat that tipped our way. Her hands open while she magically materializes a circle of candy floating around her.
Where her jewelry is made of chocolate chips and she offers you the chance to take a piece or two or three.
Delighting in your joy as you sample her creations.
For the truth is life without the Goddess of Chocolate simply would not be as sweet.
